Monterey Bay Aquarium

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is a world-renowned nonprofit institution located on the historic Cannery Row in Monterey, California, dedicated to the conservation of the ocean.

 

It features over 200 award-winning exhibits, including a towering three-story kelp forest and a massive million-gallon "Open Sea" tank. Beyond its stunning displays of sea otters, sharks, and jellies, the aquarium is a global leader in marine research and sustainable seafood advocacy through its Seafood Watch program.

We love Monterey, which is why we decided to have our wedding weekend here.

 

For nature enthusiasts, this area offers so much:

  • Hiking at Point Lobos State Natural Reserve

  • Biking the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreational Trail - 18 miles

  • Kayaking at Moss Landing. I promise you will see sea otters!

  • Whale watching from Fisherman's wharf. It is a year long activity here!

 

For the foodies, here are some great options:

  • Revival Ice Cream - line out the door, but it moves fast!

  • El Charrito Express - if Chipotle was served by a mom and pop

  • Cella Restaurant and Bar - dinner in a lush outdoor pergola

  • Stokes Adobe Restaurant - another dinner option in a historic home

  • Captain + Stoker - We LOVE our coffee and this is the local favorite

  • Ad Astra Bread Co - You died and went to Pastry Heaven

  • Cafe Guarani - the owners from Paraguay serve empanadas, coffee, and Yerba Mate

  • Alta Bakery - more pastries in a beautiful historic building
